The French attacker Nicolas Anelka joined Mumbai City back in September of 2014 and now he has been given a new role in the Indian club as he was recently named as the team’s player-manager.

One of the latest incidents where a player was promoted as a player-manager of a top club occurred with Chelsea when Didier Drogba was able to work alongside Jose Mourinho in Stamford Bridge and the Ivorian forward also had the chance of perming in games just in case it was needed

It seems like giving certain players the ability to help out with formations and have a closer relationship as well as being able to perform in matches is something that is growing as more clubs are doing it with some of their performers.

Mumbai City will be kicking off their next season on October 5 as they face off with FC Pune City and before Anelka officially starts working with the Indian Super League team in October and for the time being, the Frenchman is enjoying his time off.

One of the ways that Anelka is enjoying his time off is by going to Wimbledon as he was seen attending the tennis tournament a few days ago. Even though Anelka is on a break and is relaxing doing things outside of the world of football, he has a tough season lying ahead of him as the Frenchman has to help Mumbai City in snatching a better position in the Indian Super League. In the first season of the Indian League, Mumbai City finished in the 7th spot which is fairly disappointing considering that there only are 8 teams competing.

Supporters and the owners of Mumbai City are hoping that the club will do better in the next season, especially now with Anelka in his new role.
